Seated Quarters
1882 25C MS68 PCGS. Briggs 1-A. Only 15,200 Seated Liberty quarters were struck in 1882, certainly a small production total in absolute terms, but about on par for Seated quarters of this time frame. The 1882 has a low survival rate however, as Larry Briggs notes the issue is "scarcer than the previous 3 years," which all had similar mintages.
The present coin is one of the very finest survivors, with the highest available technical quality and incredible eye appeal. For some reason, most of the really high grade specimens of this issue we have seen were softly struck on the obverse. This coin shows a touch of that softness on the figure of Liberty, but the stars are unusually sharp, compared to other MS68 specimens we have offered. The virtually pristine surfaces are visited by vivid shades of golden-brown and violet toning, with vibrant, satiny mint luster underneath. This coin is a must-have specimen for the finest Registry Set. Population: 2 in 68, 0 finer (1/17).
