Bust Half Dollars
1828 50C Square Base 2, Small 8s, Large Letters, O-115, R.2, MS66 PCGS. A razor-sharp Gem with terrific eye appeal. The O-115 is a relatively available Square Base 2 variety, confirmed by angled die defect lines in the field between the scroll at E of E PLURIBUS and the eagle's left (facing) wing. Golden luster glows from the centers of this vibrant half, deepening to rich caramel-gold shades framed by calico rim toning. Lavender and steel-blue shades blanket the reverse. The surfaces are remarkably mark-free. Ranking among the finest examples in the Condition Census for the variety according to Steve Herrman's Autumn 2016 listing, this stunning coin, in our opinion, clearly outranks all others in eye appeal. Technical quality is unsurpassed. PCGS has seen five Premium Gem 1828 Square Base 2, Small 8s, Large Letters half dollars and none finer (1/17).
