Seated Half Dollars
1866 50C Motto MS66+ PCGS. WB-Unlisted. A richly frosted example, with rose-red and olive-gray accents over pearlescent-silver surfaces. The strike is sharp across each side. Abrasions and marks are limited to a few minimal occurrences, none of which are distracting. An interesting anomaly in the dentils beneath the 8 in the date is almost assuredly the top loop of a misplaced digit -- most likely an 8 or a 6. This MPD is not listed in either the 1993 Wiley-Bugert reference or the most recent edition of Cherrypicker's. The lower reverse shows possible die doubling most visible at ALF DO of the denomination. PCGS reports just two finer examples regardless of variety. Population: 3 in 66 (1 in 66+), 2 finer (1/17).
