Seated Half Dollars
1867-S/S 50C WB-103, Die Pair 3, R.3, MS64 PCGS. The mintmark is lightly recut, confirming the WB-103 variety, while a diagnostic die crack through the rock support and foot to the edge identifies the die marriage. Lavender and orange hues provide the only indication of color on this otherwise brilliant Choice 1867-S half dollar. The devices are well-struck, including the eagle's claws, legs, and fletchings, although the upper stars and Liberty's head are softly detailed. A few small ticks show on Liberty's left (facing) arm, but the fields are clean overall. The 1867-S is rare in near-Gem condition regardless of the variety. Population (all varieties): 3 in 64, 1 finer (1/17).
