Seated Half Dollars
1879 50C MS66 PCGS. Lustrous and nearly prooflike with pristine surfaces and a crisp strike. The reverse displays a faint blush of light, wheat-gold toning, but the coin is essentially brilliant. The advent of the Morgan dollar tied up Mint resources, and Seated half coinage was reduced to token levels until 1891. The 1879 business mintage was only 4,800 pieces, though dealers with connections to the Philadelphia Mint secured a few hundred Uncirculated examples. Population: 49 in 66 (3 in 66+), 20 finer (1/17).
