Barber Half Dollars
1908-O 50C MS67 PCGS. Rainbow-toned around the peripheries and exceptionally lustrous, this Superb Gem New Orleans half also offers a sharp strike for the issue that lacks only slightly on the eagle's right (facing) wing junction. The old-time "coin board" toning combines with underlying silver flash for tremendous eye appeal. Carefully preserved surfaces show a minimum of tiny, ticklike contacts, each well-hidden in the toning. Most Barber half dollar issues are extremely rare or even unknown in Superb Gem condition. The 1908-O is indeed rare so fine, but it remains one of only a handful of dates that are typically considered type coin candidates in this grade. Fewer than two dozen coins are reported in this and finer condition by both PCGS and NGC combined, including possible resubmissions. Population: 15 in 67, 1 finer (12/16).
