Morgan Dollars
1895-S $1 MS65 Prooflike NGC. Ex: Eliasberg. The 1895-S Morgan is a semikey date, and Prooflike examples are scarce. In Gem condition, the population of these piece declines sharply. NGC has seen nine Gem Prooflike coins (one with a Plus designation) and none finer. PCGS reports one in this grade and one finer. Only one Deep Mirror Prooflike coin surpasses the MS64 grade level at either service (1/17). This outstanding Condition Census Prooflike example is from the Eliasberg collection and previously was purchased directly from the San Francisco Mint by J.M. Clapp. The coin has stark cameo contrast and brilliant, frosty devices. The fields are reflective but with faint die striations as if struck from a fresh die pair. A few light grazes on the cheek limit the grade. The usual strike softness is seen on the eagle's breast and the hair above Liberty's ear. A great rarity in this grade.
