Proof Morgan Dollars
1898 $1 PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS. A limited mintage of 735 proof Morgan dollars was accomplished in 1898, but quality control was excellent and Mike Fuljenz notes, "This date was probably the best made in the entire series." The coins were produced at intervals throughout the year, with the largest number struck in December, probably to serve as Christmas gifts.
The present coin is a delightful Premium Gem, with razor-sharp definition on the frosty design elements and deeply mirrored fields with dramatic cameo contrast. The impeccably preserved surfaces are blanketed in attractive shades of greenish-gold toning, with a single amber alloy spot on Liberty's cap. Population: 10 in 66 Deep Cameo, 18 finer (1/17).
