Peace Dollars
1928-S $1 MS65 NGC. A strong strike and above-average luster confirm the Gem status of this conditionally rare San Francisco issue. Despite a moderate 1.6 million-piece mintage, the 1928-S is the scarcest Peace dollar in MS65 or finer grades -- a fact that is sometimes lost because of its availability in lesser grades. Any finer, the 1928-S is nearly unavailable, with just a single coin at NGC and PCGS each, both grading MS66.
A light speckling of blue and tan-gold toning occupies the obverse border. Faint gold hues add a natural appearance to the frosted silver fields and devices. A few tiny marks are well-hidden among the raised elements. Given the few pieces that qualify for an MS65 grade, this example is sure to excite Peace dollar specialists and it is destined to fill the centerpiece role for a fine collection.
