1853 G$1 MS66+ PCGS. The small-diameter Longacre design proved to be difficult to produce and the miniature size was awkward in commerce, yet the denomination had a long run (albeit with significant design and size changes). It will be hard to improve on the technical quality of this example, with its razor-sharp strike and richly frosted, nearly mark-free surfaces. Vibrant mint luster radiates from both sides, unhindered by any annoying alloy spots that sometimes affect the issue. Very few pieces are finer. Population: 55 in 66 (5 in 66+), 12 finer (1/17).
