Classic Quarter Eagles
1839-O $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. Breen-6152, Variety 27, R.3. High Date, Wide Fraction. Although the New Orleans Mint struck its first silver coins in 1838, gold coins were not struck until the next year, when 17,781 quarter eagles were produced. Two die pairs were used for this emission. This partly lustrous piece is nicely struck and has only a few small marks, none of which are significant.
