Liberty Half Eagles
1864 $5 AU50 PCGS. Boasting a low mintage of 4,170 pieces, the 1864 half eagle is scarce in all grades. Few examples survived melting brought about by economic uncertainties during the war. Only 60 to 75 coins are believed known today, almost all in circulated grades. This AU example displays partially lustrous fields and rich orange-gold patina. The devices are boldly detailed amid mild surface chatter. Population: 7 in 50, 16 finer (12/16).
