Early Eagles
1801 $10 BD-2, R.2, MS61 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/a. The usual die state with several bold parallel die lines embedded in Liberty's cap. At first glance, they appear to be clash marks from the shield, but they are not, and their origin is unknown. This apricot-gold representative is boldly struck and without any mentionable marks. Luster illuminates the borders and devices. The Heraldic Eagle ten dollar was struck only between 1797 and 1804, and is a coveted early gold type. The 1801 BD-2 is among the more collectible varieties, along with the 1799 B-7 and B-10, and the 1800 BD-1.
