Liberty Eagles
1871-CC $10 XF45 NGC. Variety 2-A. From a second-year mintage of 8,085 pieces, the 1871-CC Liberty eagle is a scarce-to-rare issue in all grades. Two die varieties are known for the date. This coin represents Variety 2-A, with the date slanting down, left to right. Both varieties employ the same reverse, which was used previously to strike the Variety 1-A of 1870.
This Choice XF specimen shows only light wear on the eagle's wing tips, neck, some stars on the obverse, and Liberty's curls on the obverse. The lightly abraded orange-gold surfaces retain a few traces of original mint luster. Census: 20 in 45, 35 finer (12/16).
