Indian Eagles
1914-D $10 MS65+ NGC. From a substantial mintage of 343,500 pieces, the 1914-D Indian eagle is one of the more available branch mint issues of the series in absolute terms. Most of the mintage was melted after the Gold Recall of 1933, but a number of coins were sent to European destinations, before World War I shut down much of the international trade with that continent. Those coins were repatriated in later years, but most examples seen were roughly handled during shipping and storage and grade in the MS60-MS64 range today. Examples in MS65 condition are still rare.
This Plus-graded Gem exhibits well-detailed design elements and vibrant mint luster on both sides. The pleasing orange-gold surfaces have a slightly granular, matte-like texture and show no mentionable distractions. Overall eye appeal is outstanding. Census: 43 in 65 (2 in 65+), 20 finer (1/17).
