Liberty Double Eagles
1857-S $20 AU58 PCGS. Variety 20F. Ex: S.S. Central America. SSCA 4632. Cartwheel luster is complete except across the right reverse field. The caramel-gold surfaces are lightly abraded and display a few areas of pale gunmetal toning. The No Serif, Right S die variety, designated for its mintmark placement and an absent left serif on the U in UNITED. Researcher Robert Evans described the recovered die marriages in a July 2000 Numismatist article. Included with the lot is an olive-green Blanchard box, a Certificate of Authenticity, and a faux book, as originally distributed. Housed in a gold label holder.
