Liberty Double Eagles
1867 $20 MS60 NGC. The 251,015 double eagles struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1867 were almost entirely for export in overseas trade. The vast majority were melted, but a small quantity of Mint State survivors have been repatriated over the years. This Uncirculated Type Two representative exhibits shallow grazes in the fields, but none of them pose as serious a distraction as one might expect for the grade. Sun-gold coloration dominates each side, accented with glimpses of rose. A strongly defined and lustrous example.
