Liberty Double Eagles
1883-CC $20 MS60 NGC. Variety 2-A. Despite a limited mintage of 59,962 pieces, the 1883-CC double eagle is fairly plentiful in XF and AU condition, as many pieces were preserved by being shipped overseas during the 19th century. Foreign hoards of U.S. gold have yielded small quantities of the date, but coins worthy of a Mint State grade remain elusive and highly sought-after. This piece displays frosty, original green-gold luster and a sharp strike. Light, scattered abrasions determine the grade, although eye appeal surpasses expectations for the MS60 level. This is an excellent coin for the Carson City date collector seeking a Mint State representative.
