High Relief Double Eagles
1907 $20 High Relief, Wire Rim MS61 PCGS. High Relief twenties were set aside by almost everyone who was fortunate enough to encounter them in 1907-1908. Very few were released into circulation. Many of the ones that grade AU or less were obviously carried as pocket pieces. However, a few were circulated, a few were handled or came into contact with other coins. This is an example of the latter. There are a few tiny abrasions scattered across each side that indicate coin-to-coin contact; otherwise, the surfaces display the usual thick mint luster and three-dimensional effect of the devices clearly separated from the surrounding fields. The wire rim (a.k.a. a "fin" in Mint parlance) is almost complete around the obverse.
