1995-W $1 Silver Eagle PR70 Deep Cameo PCGS. The 10th anniversary of the United States bullion coinage program was commemorated with a five-coin set of proof bullion issues struck at the West Point Mint. The set included all four gold denominations (tenth-ounce $5, quarter-ounce $10, half-ounce $25, and one-ounce $50) and a one-ounce Silver Eagle. While the gold coins could be ordered individually, the 1995-W Silver Eagle could only be obtained as part of a complete set, with an issue price of $999. This was a prohibitively high price for most collectors, who opted for a 1995-P proof Silver Eagle, which could be purchased for $23, instead. As a result, only 30,125 commemorative sets were sold, making the 1995-W an elusive issue from the day it was struck.
This magnificent PR70 example exhibits fully detailed design elements with a rich coat of mint frost that contrasts profoundly with the deeply mirrored fields. The brilliant surfaces are impeccably preserved and eye appeal is terrific. Technically perfect Deep Cameo specimens, like the present coin, are very scarce in PCGS holders.
