Patterns
1827 25C Quarter Dollar, Judd-48, Pollock-49, High R.7, PR65 Brown PCGS. CAC. Ex: Woodin. Struck from the same dies as the restrike 1827 Capped Bust quarter with a square base 2 in the denomination. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. It is believed (as related in USPatterns.com) that these copper pieces, as well as their silver counterparts, were struck in the 1870s. The first auction appearance of a copper piece was in a Haseltine sale in February 1877. The fields are moderately reflective and the devices are sharply struck. The surfaces are undeniably copper, not silver-plated as is one of the five known examples. Of course, heavy die rust is scattered over each side.
Ex: 1914 ANS Exhibit, William Woodin, exhibitor.
