Betts Medals
Betts-89. 1701 Philip V Proclamation in Mexico, Cast Silver -- Repaired -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. An armored bust of Philip V faces right on the obverse, with the arms of Mexico City on the reverse. The City of Mexico received a decree to hold proclamation ceremonies for King Philip V, and the viceroy of the city replied with a letter that the celebration would commence soon thereafter. The ceremony began on April 4, 1701 with a budget that exceeded 500,000 pesos. This cast and chased silver example is exceptional quality for its type with delicate gold toning on its light gray surfaces. We see no evidence of repair on this example. 29.0 mm, 9.3 grams. (Est. $7,000-$9,000).
