Betts-400. "1756" Kittanning Destroyed, White Metal -- Edge Damaged -- PCGS Genuine. Unc. Details. Edward Duffield engraved the dies, and Joseph Richardson struck these pieces. These dies were among the earliest medal dies produced in America, and this piece was struck in white metal or pewter from the original dies. This attractive example retains considerable mint luster. Once mounted at 12 o'clock with edge damage at that location. Colonel John Armstrong led seven companies of Pennsylvania militia who attacked and destroyed the Indian village at Kittanning in Western Pennsylvania following earlier action that resulted in the death of his brother, Lieutenant Edward Armstrong. 43.6 mm, 23.7 grams.
