1781-Dated Gen. Daniel Morgan, Battle of Cowpens, Julian MI-7, Bronzed Copper, MS64 Brown NGC. Betts-593. Barre copy dies. Examples of Betts-593, struck from the original Augustin Dupré dies, are very rare. In 1839, the U.S. Mint commissioned copy dies from French engraver Jean-Jacques Barre. Most pieces seen today are Philadelphia Mint strikings (Julian MI-7) from the Barre-engraved dies. The present intricately struck and unblemished medal displays deep and consistent mahogany-brown toning. 56 mm. (Est. $1,500-$2,000).
