So-Called Dollars
1920 Manila Mint Opening, Wilson Dollar, Silver, MS65 PCGS. HK-449. The Manila Mint was the only U.S. branch mint that operated outside the continental United States. The facility opened on July 16, 1920, and commemorative medals were issued in silver, copper, and gold. The silver medals are often called Wilson dollars, since they were struck on 38 mm planchets. The Wilson portrait was taken from the 1919 Assay Office medal. The reverse design is adapted from the 1882 Assay Office medal. A lustrous Gem with an aquamarine obverse center.
