Early Half Dollars
1805 50C O-112, T-2, R.2, AU50 NGC. Tompkins Die Stage 1/1. This is the most frequently encountered variety for the 1805 half dollar, but this piece survives in an uncommonly fine state of preservation. In fact, it just makes the low end of Tompkins' Condition Census. Deep cobalt-blue, olive, and gold patina clings to the upper obverse border. The color on Liberty's face lightens somewhat, where slight friction is present. Strike detail remains razor-sharp on the curls, feathers, and shield.
