Reeded Edge Half Dollars
1837 50C GR-14, R.1, MS63 PCGS. Delicate tan-gold toning graces the borders of this coruscating and crisply struck example. The coin is refreshingly free from distracting abrasions. A prominent die crack descends across the obverse border from 10 to 5 o'clock and runs downward across Liberty's drapery and through the date -- diagnostic of GR-14. Slight recutting on the 7 is visible at the inner upright and at the top of the flag. Extensive die cracks on the reverse traverse through the legends and into the eagle's left wing confirm the terminal die state. Despite the multiple die cracks, the central motifs retain a sharp strike.
