Seated Half Dollars
1861-O 50C WB-101, Die Pair 6, R.3, MS64 PCGS. Struck from an early state of the dies while the New Orleans Mint was under the authority of the State of Louisiana, this lustrous and attractive half dollar has claims to an even higher grade. The Choice fields are exceptionally free of abrasions on both sides and the strike is sharp throughout. Marks are limited to a few small ticks on Liberty's left (facing) arm and a nick on the pole. Golden-gray toning displays blue accents that are especially vibrant within the eagle's plumage and at the reverse legend. A sparkling near-Gem, scarce this nice. Population: 33 in 64 (1 in 64+), 14 finer (1/17).
