Seated Half Dollars
1867-S 50C WB-101, Die Pair 1, R.4, MS63 PCGS. Attribution markers for this die pair include a small die chip on the rock above the 8 and a horizontal die line from the left part of the shield through the eagle's feathers. Interesting cracks confirm the late state of the dies. Of the 1.2 million half dollars struck in San Francisco in 1867, PCGS estimates 35 pieces survive in Mint State. Liberty's head features strong definition, while the stars and reverse motifs are similarly well-detailed. Frosted surfaces are lightly toned, and marks are scant for the grade. Population: 8 in 63, 4 finer (1/17).
