Early Dollars
1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, B-14, BB-122, R.3, VF30 PCGS. Bowers Die State V. Traces of golden mint luster remain at the borders of this lightly toned, silver-gray early dollar. Pale blue overtones add to the eye appeal. Sharply defined despite 30 points of wear, the coin is a textbook example of the middle state of the dies. A dull vertical die crack along the inside of the left-hand stars is only slightly biplanar, a condition that increases in severity until star 7 and the L in LIBERTY weaken to obscurity.
