1890-O $1 MS65 PCGS. The 1890-O is always a bit soft over the ear, yet the strike is otherwise sharp on this Gem dollar. Primary attention goes to the dramatic toning of the coin, which displays crescents of vivid rainbow toning on both the obverse and reverse. The shades are deepest at the border and lighten through a progression of colors ranging from eggplant-purple to cerulean-blue, deep violet, lavender, sun-gold, lemon-yellow, and aquamarine. A light-olive hue covers the balance of the obverse while the reverse cedes to brilliant-white. Just 29 examples are numerically finer than this vibrant MS65 coin at PCGS.
