1891-CC $1 Spitting Eagle, VAM-3, Top 100, MS65 PCGS. A Top 100 Variety. Famous for the egg-shaped die chip near the eagle's beak, the Spitting Eagle variety also displays a repunched mintmark where the first C is entered slightly north of an underlying C. Brilliant and frosty, this minimally abraded example is brightly lustrous and brilliant-white except for a thin hint of gold at the rims. The strike is quite sharp. Population: 17 in 65 (2 in 65+), 2 finer (1/17), although the population is undoubtedly understated in the recently introduced numbering system.
