1895-S $1 S Over Horizontal S, VAM-4 -- Altered Surfaces -- PCGS Genuine. Unc Details. A Top 100 Variety. The design elements of this extremely popular variety are sharply detailed and the remnants of the undertype horizontal S are easily seen below the primary mintmark. The surfaces show a number of minor contact marks, but no actual wear, and the fields are brightly reflective, under shades of greenish-gold toning. Some areas around the lower wreath show subtle signs of alteration.
