1840-D $2 1/2 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. XF. Variety 1-A. An early Dahlonega issue with a meager mintage of 3,532 pieces. The present olive-gold example has a slightly glossy appearance but would please many Southern gold collectors. Minor marks are noted on the upper reverse field. Both sides exhibit prominent bisecting die cracks.
