Liberty Quarter Eagles
1852-C $2 1/2 AU53 PCGS. Variety 1. The small mintage of 9,772 pieces ranks seventh out of the 20 Charlotte quarter eagle issues, with an estimated survivorship of 115 to 165 pieces in all grades. No additional quarter eagles were struck at the Charlotte Mint in 1853, and only small mintages were produced over the next several years until no more quarter eagles were struck after 1860. This is a natural deep green-gold example with a comparatively sharp strike and faint orange accents. The obverse is bold, with customary weakness on the reverse at the eagle's neck and leg plumage. Population: 10 in 53, 31 finer (1/17).
