Liberty Quarter Eagles
1862 $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. Gold coins of the Civil War era were widely hoarded and melted, resulting in small mintages and low survival rates for most issues of this period. Accordingly, the 1862 Liberty quarter eagle is an elusive issue in all Mint State grades. This well-detailed MS61 example exhibits lustrous orange-gold surfaces with the minimum number of minor contact marks for the grade. Census: 31 in 61, 19 finer (1/17).
