Liberty Double Eagles
1855-S $20 AU58 PCGS. Like most Type One double eagles, the 1855-S was very rare in high grade before the recovery of the S.S. Central America and the S.S. Republic. Fortunately, more than 350 examples were recovered from those famous shipwrecks, many in high grade, making the 1855-S much more available today. This attractive near-Mint specimen offers lustrous, lightly abraded orange-gold surfaces and well-detailed design elements, with just a trace of wear. Population: 69 in 58 (1 in 58+), 28 finer (1/17).
