Liberty Double Eagles
1859-S $20 Doubled Die Obverse, FS-101, AU58 NGC. This Cherrypicker's variety shows strong doubling on LIBERTY and the portrait, where the eye is broadly doubled and Liberty's curls and profile less obviously so. The current example also shows a sizeable struck-through planchet lamination on the reverse at ST of STATES and within the rays beneath, described as a Mint Error on the holder. Despite the anomaly, this is a remarkably vibrant and frosted twenty with strong mint luster throughout and few marks, abrasions, or wear from circulation. The surface quality certainly suggests a full Mint State coin.
