1878 $20 Doubled Die Reverse MS61 PCGS. Variety 2. Though no doubled die reverse is listed for the 1878 in any standard reference, three different varieties are known. This is the second variety, with doubling strongest on the bases of STATES OF AMERICA. The Motto is also lightly die doubled. The second 8 in the date is repunched, possibly Breen-7269. The varieties are undesignated on the holder. This is a lustrous pumpkin-gold double eagle with a good strike and a bagmark beneath Liberty's eye.
