Territorial Gold
(1842-52) G$1 A. Bechtler Dollar, 27 G. 21 C., Plain Edge, K-24, R.3, MS60 NGC. August Bechtler inherited the family coining business from his father, Christian, around 1840. The Bechtler gold coinage was highly regarded for its consistent weight and fineness, and examples could be found in circulation until the Civil War. This attractive Mint State specimen is sharply struck and lightly marked for the grade. Traces of prooflike reflectivity show in sheltered areas around the devices. Listed on page 389 of the 2017 Guide Book.
