Geto-Dacians. AR Denarius, after 78 BC. Geto-Dacian hybrid imitation, copying obverse type of M. Atilius Saranus and reverse of M. Volteius M.f. (c. 78 BC). Obv. Helmeted head of Roma right; below chin, X; behind, SARAN ligate, upwards. Rev. Ceres in biga of snakes right, holding torch in each hand; behind, uncertain symbol (candelabrum?); in exergue, M. VOLTEI. M.F. Cr. 214/1c (obv. type) and 385/3 (rev. type). AR. g. 3.49 mm. 21.00 RR. Very rare. Broad flan, full weight and good metal quality. Good VF. This very rare and interesting coin is both an ancient imitation and a mule, with the obverse copied from a denarius of Atilius Saranus and the reverse taken from an issue of M. Volteius.
