TOKENS FROM THE LATE DAVID GRIFFITHS COLLECTION (PART VII)

BRITISH TOKENS, 17th Century Tokens, Wales, ANGLESEY, Beaumaris, Ben: Jones and John Worsley, Penny, mm. cinquefoil, 1.94g/12h (Boon –; N –; BW. 9 var.). Fine, of the highest rarity; perhaps no other specimen extant from these dies and probably struck c. 1663, certainly later than Boon 12b £400-600

---

Provenance: Bt N.A. Clark December 1999.

Boon suggests the denomination is a farthing, Williamson a halfpenny; as all the other local north Wales issues of this size are pennies, it is perhaps probable that the issuers anticipated that their larger issue of tokens would circulate for a penny but we cannot now know
