Cilicia, Soloi. Ca. 410-375 B.C. AR stater (20 mm, 10.21 g, 9 h). Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with a griffin springing right / Grape bunch on vine, tendril and leaf at sides; all within pelleted diamond border within diamond incuse. Casabonne type 4; cf. SNG BN 168-9 (ethnic); SNG Levante -; cf. SNG von Aulock 5864 (same). Attractive old collection toning, minor flan flaw in obverse field, some flatness on helmet. Otherwise good very fine.
There are a great variety of Athena head / grape bunch staters from Soloi in Cilicia and there is as of yet no significant study of them. This particular variety lacking the city ethnic and with the additional small bunch of grapes hanging from the leftmost tendril is actually quite rare.
