ΔHMOC ΛAOΔ-IKЄΩN NЄΩKOP, diademed and draped bust of Demos right; c/ms: bust right and PH monogram, both within circular incuses / ΛAOΔIKЄΩN/NЄΩKOP in two lines in exergue, statue of emperor, togate, standing facing within octastyle temple with arched entablature; above, monogram and date (Π-H). Green patina, think stress fracture from the countermarking. Very fine.
The coinage of Laodicea ad Lycum from the Severan period bears civic dates, which date from Hadrian's first visit to the city during A.D. 123. This particular coin has two countermarks, one of which contains the date 108 (A.D. 231).
