Pisidia, Antiochia. Valerian I. A.D. 253-260. Æ (22 mm, 6.68 g, 5 h). IMP CAE P AELL OVΛEPIΩN, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Valerian I right / ANTIOC-HIO CL around, SR in exergue, vexillum surmounted by eagle between two standards. Krzyzanowska II/10; SNG BN 1320. Well centered and struck. Tan-brown patina. Nice very fine.

From the Big Sky Collection.

The mint of Antiochia in Pisidia presents some of the most atrocious engraving errors to appear on the entire Roman Provincial coinage, sometimes making it all but impossible to determine the Roman emperor in whose name the coin was struck. Here the obverse legend is sufficiently clear to make identification easy, but nonetheless it is rendered in both Latin and Greek characters.
