Macedonian Kingdom. Alexander III 'the Great'. 336-323 B.C. AR tetradrachm (27 mm, 16.34 g, 9 h). Contemporary imitation(?). Copying Arados, ca. 320/19-315 B.C. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion's skin headdress / ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ, Zeus seated left, holding eagle and scepter; in left field, AP monogram. Cf. Price 3426 (Byblos). Toned. Very fine.

There are a number of imitations of Alexander III tetradrachms from Arados. Although it is not certain if this coin is imitative or simply engraved by an unskilled, but official, hand, the low weight suggests the former.
