Sicily. Syracuse. Deinomenid Tyranny (485-466 BC). AR Tetradrachm, struck under Hieron, ca. 478-475 BC. 17.35 gms. Quadriga driven right by charioteer, Nike flying above to crown horse, rev. EVR-AK-oΣI-ON (the last N reversed, the R and A upside down), Head of Arethusa right wearing pearl tainia, hoop earring with single pendant and pearl necklace, four dolphins around. Boehringer 296 (V142/R204). Pleasing archaic style. Near Extremely Fine.
