Crete. Lyttos AR Stater, ca. 320-280 BC. XX gms. Eagle flying left, rev. Boar's head right, mouth agape, within linear square, in incuse square. The eagle on the obverse is likely a reference to Zeus, as Rhea was said to have given birth to the god in a cave on Mount Aegaeum near Lyttos. Le Rider Monnaies crétoises, pl. VII, 20; Svoronos 32; BMC 13. Rare. Toned slate gray. Very Fine.
