A number of inscriptions record the distinguished career of Amenhotep, otherwise known as Huy, son of Hapu and Lady Itu, who held a number of important offices under the Pharaoh Amenhotep III. He served as a royal scribe, priest and overseer of building projects, including the Colossi of Memnon. A cult developed around Huy following his death and over time the royal servant garnered a legendary reputation for his wisdom. His cult is attested as late as the Ptolemaic Period.
