From the Herbert B. Stearns Collection.

From the 18th Dynasty on, a weight system based on the qedet, weighing approximately 9.1-9.4g [10 qedet = 1 deben]), had become well-established in Egypt, although active international trade necessitated the use of numerous other weight systems alongside the qedet standard. Such Egyptian scale weights are typically cupcake-shaped or ellipsoid with flat bases, and are found throughout the ancient Near East and in various materials. For further discussion, see David Hendin, Ancient Scale Weights (New York, 2007), pp. 78-79 and 158.
